Barnsley based photographer Alan Melling will be bringing just a small part of his vast photographic portfolio to the Coterie Gallery in Sheffield as part of a solo exhibition running from Friday 16th June to Thursday 5th August 2010.Starting out at the age of 7 with a box 'Brownie' bought for him by his grandparents his interest in photography took him to his first job as a photographic processor and later to Dewsbury & Batley College of Art.Over the years Alan has travelled the world taking photographs as many of us do with the usual compositions of sunny landscape, blues sky's and smiling locals, albeit of a more technical and visual quality than the average family snaps, but over time he began to see another side to these bright places and looked into the shadows and hidden dark corners at the edge of things and found the dark leaked. This exhibition will encompass some traditional images using tradition methods but will also be featuring contemporary work using an old 35mm camera whilst also embracing the use of digital cameras and digital technology.
