Odyssey is an ancient Greek term to mean a journey, best exemplified in the writings of the philosopher 'Homer' in his chronicles on the journey of Odysseus to his home and family in Ithica following the Trojan wars. Part of this journey took him into the Underworld to seek directions from the Oracle
But this as nothing to the legend of Orpheus who following the death of his wife Eurydice relates to his journey into the Underworld to beg of Hades the release of the soul of Eurydice.
Odyssey is not a morbid story of death but a story of love showing the extent to which we would go for those who we love.
Each painting is a piece in its own right but leads to the next in a journey of buried images and symbolism that gradually reveals itself.
The iterpretation is in the mind of the viewer allowing them to embark on their own Odyssey.
